shifting to OD when cold
I have noticed that on my '93 Corolla the colder it is outside (I live in Ohio) the longer it takes to shift into OD. When mildly cold 40 deg or so, it takes about 3 miles. Yesterday, at about 15 degrees it took about 10 miles. I have changed the fluid & filter (just drained pan, not a total flush). Any ideas?

10 miles does seem a bit long. Mine is slow in the winter and I deal with -3 degrees often, but will usually up shift by the time I covered 2 -3 miles. I don't push the MPH either, I take it real easy. BTW I recommend transmission flush your next scheduled maintenance.

My 95 Corolla does the same thing. What I have noticed is that it always shifts at the same point on the engine temperature gage. I think the computer is programmed to hold the transmission out of overdrive until the engine temperature reaches a predetermined value. My Corolla has been this way for years. Funny thing is that neither my wife nor I can say for certain if it has always been this way or if it started doing this when we moved from the warmer climate of Texas to where we are now in North Dakota.
