please i have seen this beofre in other board DONT SAY I THINK I KNOW WHAT YOUR PROB IS..............THIS IS FOR THE SAFETY OF MY WIFE DRIVING AT NIGHT ...............when put in gear (no headlights turned on) the DRL's wont come on, but will let her have low beams and pass side high beam only i know its either a short or maybe the drl relay under the battery tray. My question for SOMEONE WHO HAS FIXED THIS PROBLEM NOT SOMEONE JUST CHIMING IN i am sorry if i come across harsh , BUT TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING JUST CUT THE WIRE for the drl's if i wanted to do that i would not be here on this board
![]() ![]() i need to know what fixes this and/or cant we get a petition going around(electronic one) for GM to fix this since after the 8 year mark of the car (and sometimes newer) THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS WHY WAIT TILL A HANDFULL OF PEOPLE LOSE THERE LIFE TO FIX SUCH AN EASY PROB DOES IT TAKE A MULTI MILLION DOLLAR LAWSUIT TO ADDRESS A PROB LIKE OR WHAT.........![]() |

Re: Daytime Running Lamps
i knew it would be too harsh for the meak but those of us who can handle a lil harshness with our breakfast know where i am coming from......i have already had it a dealer AT OVER 75 AN HOUR 2 HOUR MINIMUM AND IT TOOK THEM 4, they changed the relay, switched out lights, changed the drl relay under the battery tray, they didnt have a switch in stock to change the turn signal one out but i am gonna be safe and say thats it for my problem ...THATS THE ONLY THING LEFT FOR ME TO CHANGE and another 44 buxs isnt gonna kill after what the dealer did i hate dealerships they are the den of the devil

Re: Daytime Running Lamps
Yep, i've been in your situation before. Seen this a few times and i know the cars wiring inside and out.
1) I replied with just killing your DRL's because your not going to want my answer. 2) Go find yourself a new headlight wiring harness ( the fault is in them) Its slowly fluttering down through the years as the cars are getting older. I've had to do this on a 96, 97, 98 so far. The lights became intermittent, DRL light flashing in the cluster. Wiring harness always cured the problem. OKAY?

Re: Daytime Running Lamps
It depends where you find the new harness. I've snagged a couple on e-bay or www.car-part.com. for 15-20 with shipping. If it comforts you any wait a couple days and i'll have my GM factory service manuals on hand that i paid out the ass for and i'll double check in that what it says to do. But i will tell you right now there is a short somewhere in the headlight harness. It could be a bad ground, bad connection somewhere in the harness with one of the pig tails. But seeing there are 4 pig tails 9005 and 9006 buy the time you went out and bought all new ones the cost of a new harness is cheaper than buying all of those.
If you got the time, get a volt meter and check the voltage going inside the hot side of the pigtail with lights on to see if its even getting power which it probably is but no ground. There is 3-4 grounds bolted into the frame under the battery tray, its also possible one of those is corroded away. I hate the 95-99 wiring harnesses, they were poorly designed and having nothing but problems with age.

Re: Daytime Running Lamps
this solved my problem so far so good .......................... Here goes...
-Disconnect the negative battery terminal. -Remove radiator cover. -Remove headlights and turn signals. -The problem occurs where the wiring runs across the car in front of the radiator. The wires rub against the bumper supports, causing pinholes in the wiring that corrode. -Unwrap all the wiring that is there. GM does a really insufficient job of protecting the wiring. -Once you locate the pinholes all you have to do is replace the section of wire that is bad. I personally had 1 on passenger side and 5 on driver side. -Once you do that just wrap all the wiring in GOOD electrical tape. -I went a step further and also used plastic wire loom to protect against the wear of the rubbing. -Then just reattach the wiring and put everything else back together. -Problem solved! |
