98 GTP: Few Engine Pics - Pistons/E-Manifold
I bought another 98 GTP project except this time it's a 4 door and its in worst shape than my 2 dr was when I bought it. I am using the engine pulled from the two door as a donor to the 4 door. I tore down the 2 door long block this morning and thought I'd post some a few pics of what I found ... I knew there
was a bad #4 piston. What surprised me was that #1 had a small piece of the top lip of the pistion missing, and #6 has a hairline crack. I also found the front side manifold with cracks on both sides. Surprisingly the rod and crankbearings are in decent shape with very little shrapnel scoring. BTW ignore the date on the pics. The camera's date stamp is FUBAR. Ask a vet if ya don't know what that means. Look next to left of the rust spot on #5 and you'll see the crack running into the shadow. ![]() #4 Piston - In the Hole ![]() #4 Piston's valves - They are not in bad shape and can be re-used. ![]() #4 Piston - Out ![]() #6 Piston ![]() All 3 of 'em together. #2 is in the middle.

Re: 98 GTP: Few Engine Pics - Pistons/E-Manifold
wow mark, you must really like these GTP's. I wish I had the ambition to buy projects to fix up. Just no time right now. You must have a fairly decent sized shop. Wish I could help you with these projects.
