2000 silverado heater core

I have a 2000 silverado 4wd and am attempting a heater core replacement i know its a mother of a job but any tips or instructions would be appreciated thanks !!

Heater core replacement varies a lot, depending on the vehicle.

On some models it's easy and quick (ie my old '87 Mustang) on others, its a total bitch (ie, my '79 Chevy van.)

Get a good service manual with instructions on the procedure. Often its difficult to figure out how to do the job best by just looking.

how is it that this is required. i have 2000 5.3l 4x4 ?

drain coolant remove hoses to heater core you will require special tool to disconnect these. disconnect temperature and mode control cable.remove instrument panel cover,disconnect electrical harnesses/grounds, remove heater/vent module mounting nuts screws remove this assembly ,remove heater core cover, lift heater core up and out...this is a big job and it is basicly the removal of the entire dash to get access to remove vertically the heater core.

uncle bob that was for another vehicle i own so i as you can see I removed that ...

not sure where you got that j cat. According to alldata, its anywhere between 5.5 hours to 8 hours depending on accessories and features. Entire dash must be removed, along with entire HVAC box.

Its a big nasty job, and there's no real hints I could give...other than get a manual

thanks everyone for your replys !! i started ripping apart the dash and unlike my 92 s10 blazer this is a job from hell i've got better things to do with a weekend so i'm gonna sick it on some poor mechanic at a shop it'll cost me 5.5 hrs (i dont know if thats even enuf time but thats wat they quoted) but it will save my sanity and my marriage !!!ha ha ha

i figure it is required because when i bought the truck the core had been bypassed and thats he only reason u would bypass it.when they start to go they leak an drip coolant on the floor and/or really steam up the windows

this is not always true. pressure test for leak. use a small foot pump or air compressor use only 10psi max pressure see if it holds pressure. they may have disconnected because the temp control module was bad . also you will need tool to screw with the hoses when you have to connect disconnect them....

why, because the heater core has been bypassed?

Its possible the blend door were failing and this was the previous owners solution, thats the only scenario I can imagine that would justify bypassing it.

If thats the case, its usually the blend door and you still have to take it apart.

it could be as simple as the temp door actuator-- inop or stripped- a simple fix......
