Key won't even turn!!!

I know this is a long shot but my key wont even turn. It's the right key for sure, but no matter what i do, the car acts like it's not the right key. I'm not sure how far the key should go in, but there is about 1/8" of it out. It's about 1 degree over here, yet it did the same thing yesterday at 30 degrees. Yesterday I pushed the clutch in and pushed the brake real hard and it started. Tried the same thing today. No luck. Someone plz help me with this!

Re: Key won't even turn!!!

This can also happen if you were holding the steering wheel slightly turned as you turned the ignition key off. The power steering ceases, and the wheel may want to return part of the way.........BUT the 'column lock' pin is extended when you turn off the ignition key, and prevents the steering wheel from 'relaxing'. Then the 'column lock' pin doesnt drop down when you put the igntion key in the next day, unless you turn the steering wheel so as to unload the force holding the column lock pin from dropping out.
This is the reason I make it point to have my hands off the steering wheel when I turn the ignition off.
A couple of times a year I like to put a couple of drops of 3-in-1 oil onto the ignition key and put it into the lock. I leave it for at least ten minutes, and repeat. This lubricates the lock mecanism so its less likely to get stiff from old age.

Re: Key won't even turn!!!

On my '98 i had to replace the ignition lock cylinder, and to get it out I had to take the plastic trim off around the steering column, and then using a rubber mallet I started tapping the lock cylinder tube in oder to get the key to the on position so I could replace the cylinder. I had the same issue with my '96 Caravan so I am suspect of these DC lock cylinders.
