Seat height, and the sight line.

The car has a very high hood and low seating position, I do not mind this as it makes you look ahead and not down. And when I drove it at moroso is was fine but the seat was just too Low. I am 5'10" and could not get a perfect position. So I removed the seat and got new bolts and some heavy duty nylon/delrin spacers I raised the seat about 1" and it seem perfect. I also got some aluminum pedals made by omp for $28 from pegasus racing that fit perfect. The only issue is the rear seat stay, that slides in and out needs to be redone, the seat is too high for the bracket to be reuse as originally fabricated. One project leads to another.

Re: Seat height, and the sight line.

Yup, I understand exactly what you are saying. The driving position is far from a Civic. Hard to see where you're going.
I drove my car at the track for the first time today. It was an auto-X with a very thght infield section. I first drove with the window net in place, and couldn't see a damn thing when I was in the tight stuff. Kinda sucked....
I didin't put up the net for the second run, and the visibility was much better. Lookin' over the hood was still tough. Some of those WC cars have even higher hoods. Visibility must really be tough in those cars.

Re: Seat height, and the sight line.

I've been driving a 996 Porsche for the last 4+ years and my head is always against the headliner. I found I sat much lower in the Panoz, which was kind of strange at first, but I adapted to it almost immediately. Kind of a big car.

Re: Seat height, and the sight line.

Being 6'4" I love the room of the Panoz... installed my ultrashield seat and a sparco flat bottom wheel for proper leg room to heel-toe etc.

I too hated the window net when I auto-xed the car.... I took the thing out and will not use it for HPDE (If I'm ever racing I'll put it back in). You can just slip it off the lower strap/loops and tuck those under the carpet.

When doing the Panoz school at RA they made a point to point out that the high hood line in the cars was a good learing tool to make you look forward and down the track vs. down like many noobs do.

Re: Seat height, and the sight line.

Great idea on removing the window net until race rules require it. The slight reduction in safety will be worth the increased visibility. I've already taken mine off the car.

Re: Seat height, and the sight line.

Funny thing, I had the window net up in my first hpde and tried to give a guy a point buy as I was getting used to the car and was not pushing it and my hand out not get out the net, ( it's intended use), next session I tie wraped it, I took mine out last night. I have to say the omp pedals are a great deal for 28 dollars, I feel better grip on the brakes which in this car is a must and now the gas pedal can be blipped with no chance of error. 1 st track day my foot got stuck under it twice and also blipped before intended,( this I solved as the gas pedal has excellant adjustment, two set screws and it will do what you want.

Re: Seat height, and the sight line.

Link to OMP pedals or a picture? Do they replace the entire pedal or just the food pad parts?

Re: Seat height, and the sight line.

link to omp pedals, the clutch and brake fit perfect, the gas pedal you need to flatten the factory wilwood, it is sheet metal ( by hand) and then you can mount the gas with two screws in a vertical line and the pedal is complete adjustable left to right. http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/pro....asp?RecId=751
