1996 ford contour

hello i have a 1996 ford contour 2.5 v6 it just recently started sliping into 2nd and 3rd gears and will not shift into fourth it is an automatic the trans fluid still has some brightness to it and is full. the over drive light is flashing and will stop from time to time and it will be fine but every ten minutes it will do it again. there is also no metal shavings in fluid so im stumped. if you have any ideas get back at me

My car started doing the same thing this weekend - did your speedometer stop working too? Please let me know if you get it figured out.

I am having the same problems with my 97 It feels like it is down shifting between 55 & 60 mph, and yes the speedometer quit working for a while but is know working again but it slips in and out of gear.

It's the transmission speed sensor - gotta love these fords and all their electrical problems!!! Good Luck!

If it is inside the transmission,transmission shops will not rebuild this transmission and I know why.Ford is "picky" on this transmission,the ground wires have to be in the right spot or the drum inside which is made out of plastic will melt.This transmission is a big POS!
