What should I get first?
OK, I would just like some advice as what to do. I just got a used 1993 Mazda RX-7 Turbo, there is nothing done to it yet, just stock. What is the first thing I should do for racing wise?
I was thinking of boosting the turbos and redoing the manifolds, etc., first, but what do you guys think??? Thnx, spy. :alien2: |

intake exhaust and headers are a must. after that go with new cams and manifoids. than work of the turbos.

I'd bullet proof the cooling system first. Upgrade the rad, fans and make sure all the vacume lines to the seq-turbo switching unit are all attached firmly. Overheating is the biggest killer of the RX7 TT's. Sweet car though, take good care of her.

The rotory motor uses the ports as the intake/exhaust timing and duration. That's why changing the port configurations on a rotory will change the charistics of the engine.
I don't really know all the details but do some searching on www.google.com for how a rotory works. There should also be some technical articles around on some of the RX-7 sites to help you along. You have to be careful with your RX-7. It's not like a normal 4 stroke motor and requires some special attention. Pleae check out some of the performance fan sites before you do any mods to your RX7. It's pretty easy to blow your motor if you start playing with boost settings. |

LOL CAMS!! How many times have I seen that..
To make the RX7 go well for started rotarys love to breath. It will be damn loud bit a good exaust system can take it from 14.3 to 13.5. Porting is your next step. Go for a PP and get 800HP.

What do you mean by porting? And what is this "PP" thing that would give me 800HP?? Do you mean nitrous oxide, or some higher staged turbo???

Pirifrial (sp?) porting. This is extreme and will cost alot.
The port is completely moved inline with the exaust port. You get over lap so idle has to be changing.. I have seen good results from J and extend ports A bigger turbo, stronger seals and better cooling is the next thing after letting it breath.

Start off with your traditional intake, exhaust. Then you are gonna want to upgrade your radiator, intercoolers, drop in a dual elctric fan set up. With an RX-7 it is all about the cooling. I would also change the oil every 1500 miles. i almost bought an RX-7, but turned it down because of it's troubles. Also get the apex seal reinfoced. That is a must!!!!! Once the apex seal goes...wave bye bye to your entire engine!

Some of the greatest mechanics, are also great at physics and chemistry. If you want your car to go fast you will need more fuel, if you have more fuel you will need more air. Once you get those two down, you will need something to allow all of these exploding gases to exit the car as fast as it can, which means headers and a good exhaust system! Once you have those combinations down, you will need a good suspension to keep your ass on the road, and what would a good suspension do if you cant stop, which means you will need good breaks! Once you have your car running good and feeling good, then you can paint it and acceserise it! You dont have to change your oil every 1500 miles though, only if you were racing it constantly, and if you are going to do that then i would prefer synthetic oil to protect against your hard driving! Oh by the way i was the manager of xpress lube in austin for about 11/2 years so i know what im talking about when it comes to oil! Oh and make sure you have a good cooling system everthing from your radiator to your turbos!

You don't have to change the oil every 1500 in a regular car, but we are talking about an RX-7. I don't know if you are familiar with it, but it has a rotary engine with twin sequential turbos. A rotary engine tends to burn oil, so it is neccessary to change the oil every 1500 miles in an RX-7. Or Bang!
