2001 Regal, rough start, power steering rumble
Hello All,
Just purchased a used 2001 Regal LS, 132k mi., 3.8L engine. Car runs good, a few minor leaks that will need to be fixed one day. Problem is rough starting. Car starts and runs fine, but engine shudders and shakes during startup, which doesn't seem normal. Previous owner replaced CAT and Fuel Pump, plus Serpentine belt. Is it time to replace the coil pack and wires? This seems to be more during cold starts that I get the engine shake. Air filter looks very clean. Second problem, when turning sharply to the left when parking, power steering makes a low rumbling noise. Power steering fluid is full. Is this a sign of impending power steering failure? Only when turning left sharply. Thanks guys and glad I found this forum. |

Re: 2001 Regal, rough start, power steering rumble
Welcome to AF.
Since the prior maintenance status is unknown other than what was mentioned I'd replace the spark plugs and ignition wires first especially with 132K miles. Also, other tune up items like fuel filter. Cleaning the old carbon out of the throttle body may help. There are known rack and pinion issues when turning a certain direction but until it gets really bad probably nothing you can do about it for now. Best to keep an eye on it for safety though.
