92 tranny trouble

92 LeSabre Limited, 132,000, after car sits overnight, only on cool days, drive for approx 2 miles stop at light, appears to slip into neutral, bangs into gear after rev or if shifter is moved it is ok. Happens once and then seems to be good for the rest of the day. No other tranny symptoms. Solenoid, valve sticking, ???

Assuming you haven't, check your fluid level. If that is good, then it could be lots of different things. You need a diagnostic tranny machine to read this one. Time for a trip to the shop. Even if someone here could accurately tell you what was wrong it still would not be fixable without some serious trouble (like removing the tranny from the car.)

These trannys have trouble eventually with the valve body getting worn and also sometimes the teeth on some of the parts get ground inside. Especially the 91-93 models. They vastly improved the innards in 94-95, and again after 96.

If you do have to eventually replace it, consider getting a rebuilt or used 94 and newer Lesabre tranny and then swapping out the wiring harness inside the side cover. Once you replace that with one from a 92, you are good to go (but check a better authority--my memory is not always reliable.)
