2001Sonoma Transfer case prob
Ok so I have looked threw 54 pages of forums and have not seen this problem yet.
I had the normal failure of the encodor. It failed in safe mode. Only 2HI and 4LO. Took in to the tranny guy here in town. He said it was the encodor motor and I said swap it out. So he did. He also mentioned I had some tranny codes and asked when it was serviced last. So I got him to do that. The next morn I showed up to put the truck up. He was finishing up the service and topping off fluids. Hes started the truck and shifted into 4HI. Then 4 LO. Then back to 4HI. All is good till this point. Then it would not shift back to 2HI and has not since. Not sure of all his procedures or what all he has done. But any help at this point would be nice. Thanks |

Re: 2001Sonoma Transfer case prob
I would be asking him a lot of questions?
Like what test he done on the transfer case and encoder motor? But first We need to know what transfer case you have. Does it have the auto button on shift buttons? What were the code no's on transmission and transfer case? And does it still have any codes ? MT

Re: 2001Sonoma Transfer case prob
What codes? There was a#2 but after the encodor was replaced. It went away. Now there is no codes. He is go'n threw the 20+ step process to eliminate all the grounds and voltage problems. So far nothing is found. He said he was on step 8 of 20something. The transfercase is a NP1. Oh and it has 3 buttons. 2HI,4HI,&4LO
Thanks, MT James |

Re: 2001Sonoma Transfer case prob
Code 2 is a encoder motor problem. But it does not say replace encoder motor.
The test for for a code 2 is to check circuits/wiring between encoder motor and TCCM. Sounds like he is still working on it. See what the test shows. Also if the transmissuion codes come back that could be part of the problem. Post back transmission codes that he found to. Good Luck MT

Re: 2001Sonoma Transfer case prob
Well guys .... My transmision guy gave up just don't have the time to work on it rite now. He said that he thinks its a worn bushing inside the transfer case causing the encodor motor to over travel and cycle back to 4HI. I think that could be a good bet. Just gonna take time to drop the transfer case and split it to find out it thats the case. So if any othe ideas come to mind please reply.
Thanks James P.S. MT there are no codes showing at this time. |

Re: 2001Sonoma Transfer case prob
Wow no one has any solutions or tips???? I'm going to be breaking into the transfer case myself to see if there is any ware on the shifting fork. I'll post back when I find out the cause of this problem. And I'll be checking back to see if anyone has any tips.
Thanks James |
