Power Mirror issue

I have a 2001.5 vw passat that has its drivers side mirror tilting up non stop. I have to turn off the car and lock the car for the motor to stop trying to tilt the mirror higher even when it cant go anymore. I am able to tilt it down using the switch but when i let go of the switch it goes right back up without the motor stopping. If anyone can let me know if they have heard or seen this before and what is the cause that would be great. I am thinking it might be a faulty switch but the passenger side does not do the same. Let me know please
