01 stock fog lights wont switch on!?!
This problem is beginning to frustrate me. I bought an 01 silverado 2 months ago. Only one fog light was on it because the owner said the other one cracked and he never got around to getting a new one. The existing fog light didnt work but i thought it may need both lights hooked up to work. I bought a new fog light and when i connected everything i still had no fog lights working. I then pulled out the relay and guess and tested jumping the 5 holes. Doing this got them to light up. So i concluded it is either a bad relay or a bad switch. I put a new switch in and still nothing...i tested the wire that plugs into the switch and i had voltage going through it. I then said ok, it must be the relay. Well i just put a new relay in and still nothing. From what i can tell, there is one fog lamp fuse and it is next to the relay. I checked that and its fine. Im out of ideas. Does the car have to be in drive for them to go on or some weird thing like that? Any tips for how to correct or even to diagnose this problem would really be appreciated.
This is an 01 silverado 5.3L Z71. Btw, it has an alarm/remote start. I just thought i should mention that. Thanks.

Thats what i was going to say, by the way is there a way to make the fog lights come on everytime the lights come on instaed of having to push the button all the time?

The fogs are disabled when the headlights are in the high position. Might look in that area.

Now I could be way off on this idea but I figure I might as well mention it anyways..I'm pretty sure that the '99 and up trucks run the signal from the fog lamp switch through the trucks computer, through the fuse block, and then out to the lamps. The only reason I know this is I added factory fog lights to my '03 and had to get the body control computer "reflashed" to add my option of foglamps to my truck programming. Now possibly your truck's computer may just need a simple reflashing to get the foglights to function again. Also I'm pretty sure there is a way to hardwire these like any after market fog light system kinda like how you jumped the relay to get the lights to come on..not sure if any of this will help but its an idea

as per a tip in the fullsizechevy.com forum....someone recommended to check the interior lamp/side marker fuse. THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM.
MCCONNELL....thanks for you're response as this was not too far off. You are not the only one to mention this as a likely possibility. Thanks for trying. Im so glad i finally got em to work.
