Road noise?

S10 pickup, 4.3 motor, 100k plus miles and all of a sudden have road noise (howl) from the front end area. Changed front wheel barings and rotated tires. Noise still there. Any idea???

Re: Road noise?

Noises have a tendency to be decieving. As for a howl,
Check the fluid in the rear end and if it is a 4x4 do the trans/transfer and front differental and bearings in the rear end, pinion and axel for starters.
There is the chance of a U-Joint as well.
Is there a speed this starts at?then goes away?

Re: Road noise?

I know this will sound stupid, How about the air pressure in the tires? and I would still check the rear end for fluid.
Just for kicks, Mabey check the clutch fan on the engine, or the smog pump mabey?
Just trying to think of anything.
Sway bar bushings, shocks.
Is this a manual transmision?
