98 Electrical problem

Hi I have a 98GTP all of a sudden the car seems to have electrical problems like starting fine but after driving a little will die. if you tried to start right then then it wouldn't start be give it a hour & then it would start only to die a mile down the road. I ended up replacing the battery. (Battery tested Bad). Now the car starts but I have a battery light that shows up & my Computer console does not even come on. Does this sound Like a alternator problem, Ground or some other electrical problem. Oh one note to point out I was backed into (pass front door) right before these things started happening. any thoughts would be helpful

Thanks Justin

Re: 98 Electrical problem

After starting how long can you drive before it stalls? Any impact damage around the front passenger fender area? Maybe a bad ground. With car in idle check the voltage across the battery negative and positive terminals with a DMM. Voltages will vary but post the results. 13.5 volts - 14.5 volts would indicate the alternator is probably OK but the light would point to the alternator or a monitoring problem via the PCM module. Or you can get the alternator tested for free at places like Autozone.
