computer problem on 96 gl
I have a 96 taurus gl with 118,000 miles on it. It has the reguler engine. My check engine light is on. My mechanic and I have replaced everything that the computer says is wrong and so theoretically, the light should go off but it doesn't. It said an oxygen sensor was bad and we replaced all 4. It said the egr sensor was bad and we replaced the sensor. The code for that went off, but the codes for the oxygrn sensors haven't gone off. He believes that the PCM is bad. he said about numbers that i need to get off of the computer to get a new one and he said about a chip that has to come out? I took out the pcm and opened it but didn't see what he was talking about. Can anyone help me in any way?

Re: computer problem on 96 gl
Yeah, find someone who knows what they're doing with these complicated systems. never heard of 4 o2 sensors going bad at once.. if you have to, take it to the Ford dealer and have them diagnose it. You've probably spent more $$$$ then the dealer would have charged to pin-point test it.. replacing a pcm is the last step in a series of diagnostics designed to rule all else out.

Re: computer problem on 96 gl
Specifically, what codes are you getting? If you what detailed help, posting the detailed codes will be a good first step. If your mechanic won't give them to you, your local auto parts store probably will.
Once you have the codes, try searching this forum foor them. Your indicators sound familiar and have probably been addressed before. -Rod |
