New to photography
I am extremely new to photography, but as a teen I used to take the camera my dad gave me and go through tons of film. I'm looking to get back into it, but I have no idea where to start. I do know that I am going to take a photography class in the summer or fall. I'm not sure what kind of camera I want to invest in. I don't know if I want digital or not, or how professional I want to go. Any suggestions for a newbie like myself? I would like to eventually shoot with a pro camera, just maybe not right away.

Re: New to photography
go here and swear into the greatest camera manufacturer ever!!!
www.photography-on-the.net It's Canon. Aniwho, depends on money and what not. You're a teen but you're taking a class in the summer or fall? How old are you exactly? Just for fun but over time upgrade is what I get. You're going to have to go digital. I know film is becoming a thing of the past seeing how film SLR's are hardly made anymore, Nikon stopped and Canon I think is stopping soon. I heard Ritz's are not developing film anymore and while they suck overall as a store they do good developing. So digital is the way to go. Go ont he site and post the samething, you'll get differented repsonses than mine but you cane get a Rebel XT with some batteries, a grip, kit lens for around $400 used on there. Just check it over and prepare to empty your wallet. There's a car area too but more for posting pics than asking questions. It's easy to navigate. I'm _aravena on there so hope to see ya!

Re: New to photography
Oh, I'm not a teen anymore! I'm 23 now. I just used to be a shutterbug before college took over my life. Now that I've graduated college I have some free time to get back into it.
I will definitely check that out! Thank you very much for your advice.

If you've wonder these forums enough, Moppie is over there as well. Biggest thing to remember is that it's not the body or the glass but the person behind it all. BUt glass does help.

Re: New to photography
Nice camera but if you take a class you need an SLR to learn on. YOu can buy an XT new for cheaper or around the same price as a G9.

Re: New to photography
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() An SLR is a Single Lens Reflex or better known as those big ass cameras pros use. Though there are entry level cameras. Canon has: Rebel Series (entry) xxD Series such as the 30D and new 40D. (prosumer = pro consumer) xD or 5D as it's the only one right now. (Kinda like an advance user pro camera) 1D Mk Series (Very pro don't worry about these...just read up on that site) Nikon: D40, D40x, and the new D60 are entry D70 and D80 are prosumer D200 & D300 are advance D2X are once again something you need not worry about now. I'm assuming you haven't went on that site. While the G9 is fine, if you plan on upgrading to anything within 1 year go ahead and get an DSLR and get some nice glass (lens). It's your best bet and you'll know what's going on in your class. Although they may make you use film. Some schools do that. Either way, not a big deal. Pending your budget, get a used Rebel XT or XTi or 20D. Then buy some glass. MOst used will come with the "kit" lens which is a standard 18-55 lens. Any more questions? I'll be back online tonight.
