Grand Cherokee Radio cassette unit

Hi all, I am in England and would like to update the radio in my 1998 Grand Cherokee Orvis. Does anyone know if it is a standard 2 DIN radio, and what kind of wiring problems could I expect?
Many thanks.

Re: Grand Cherokee Radio cassette unit

You can buy adapter kits to place just about any type of radio you want in the Jeep a long with wiring adapters. The wiring adapters just plug into the factory radios speaker and power harness that way you should not need to cut any wires on the Jeep. All the wire connections that need splicing and taping/soldiering or however you decide to mate the joining wires are done outside the Jeep between the radio you have and the wire adapter.

Re: Grand Cherokee Radio cassette unit

Most of the Jeeps I've seen have a single DIN (single-height radio bay). You should be able to tell just by looking at the size (height) of the radio. If it's single-height (about the height of the air vents or the A/C control knobs) it's a single-DIN. If it's about twice as high (usually these have a video display screen) then it's likely a double-DIN. Since you have a cassette player (older model) I'd guess it's a single-DIN. If you want to be sure, measure the height of the radio (to the inner edges of the dash board trim) and compare that to what you see in the store. If it's close (within one or two centimeters) then it will fit fine with a universal trim kit. If the new radio is nearly twice as large (2-DIN), it won't fit in the bay.

In my '94 Jeep GC I purchased a stock radio from an audio store and it fit right in (needed to get the adaptor cable that msdz referred to).
