Protecting the Metro Frame

Anyone have any ideas on how to keep the Metro's front frame from rusting out? Not only cleaning it but what about POR15? While were at it what about the back?

I'd be curious to see how others metros are rusting away. I know that conditions such as moisture and road salt effect how quickly cars rust. I'll take a photo later and put it up here.

Tha'ts one sweet pic of your met..truck there. I just hauled a 32 inch tv in mine. What a sight!

As far as the frame I just coat it with oil about once a month. Along with a good wash.

POR15 might help slow down the rusting process along with a rust inhibitor spray might also help.

When I purchased my Metro new back in 95. I had it rustproofed annually by a Rust Check dealer. From watching professionals apply it, I now have been doing it myself the last few years using Rust Check products that can be purchased at some retail stores. Just before winter I spray all the seams and holes, the inside of the trunk, trunk lid, wheel wells, engine compartment, hood, under body and frame, doors and inside panels...almost every hole, seam and trim gets treated. It takes about a four cans of the stuff. I can tell you it's working for me...going on 13 Toronto winters.

Dwendt .. I try to keep after MY Metro by painting every seam and joint (well EVERYTHING) with Rust-O-lium enamel paint. I re-paint the underside and inside after removing the rear interior side panels & back seat. I do this about twice a year. Also set up spray paint cans with old WD-40 nozzles and shoot paint into the rocker panels and front sub frame. So far .. so good! Here in Massachusetts I'm dissapointed to see how road salt destroy's automotive hardware! If you want to KEEP you car .. you work at it! Not just oil changes but serious under car maintence, or your bolts will turn into rusty flowers (Eeewww)
It's WORTH it though .. where ELSE will you get a three cyl. super car that get's THIS kind of mileage at this price?! (nowhere NOW days) Good job with YOURS !! Drive careful and laugh at the Hybrids! (hah) DangerDude

Here's some pics of what happens when you don't protect the car. It's a 95 3 cyl, and I've had it for 7 years. I live in Edmonton where we salt during the warmer part of the winter (below -10 c road salt is ineffective). I drive it every winter and do a few underbody washes throughout the year.

The rusted out anti sway bar mount means that this car has no stabilizers as the front is removed as well.
