Hasegawa '66 Thunderbird, lots of pictures

So, finally got around to finish this one. Lost momentum during assembly of the front end. Nothing fits as it should leaving gaps and a ill fitting bumper.
Well, left it as is. A bit strange to build a US car from Hasegawa and more strange that it's so badly engineered as the other stuff from them is very good.

Managed to get some scratches and chipped paint but as a learning experience it's ok so it's now put in the cabinet with the rest.

On to the pictures, taken inside due to a minor snowstorm for the moment.

I guess you lowered it, yes? It seems to be scraping the white lines from the middle of the road

Wow, impressive to hear that from Hasegawa. Seems they have pushed realism a bit too far in this OOP model then.

These cars (TBird, Pontiac, Chevrolet, Cadillac) being sold by Hasegawa were directly "copied" in the 60's from original AMT & Johan models of the same subjects. They were generally intended for slot car use. There is no reason to compare these kits to modern Hasegawa kits. These kits weren't very popular in the US because we could get the originals or reissues of the real kits for a good bit less $$ than the Hasegawa versions. The Hasegawa interiors/chassis were completely generic. AMT's '66 TBird has been out in the not distant past, has much more detail. No kits sourced from the 60's are engineered to modern standards.

The wheelbase was totally wrong for the 'bird, the wheels sat to far apart looking very odd. We actually had a discussion about the origin of the kit and thought it was somekind of promo-style model from the US.
One could say we where very close in our guessing game.
