Re: 1988 Caprice

I'd say buy it and don't pay no less than $20,000 for it because if it's an '88 and it's a coupe that's got to be the rarest Caprice ever haha

'87, the last Caprice coupe

That 305 does something like 140hp I believe...somebody else on here will know better. I say you got to at least have a 350 if you want to have some fun.

'87, the last Caprice coupe ...
There were a handful of them made in 1988. They ARE rare, under 500 made I believe. I remember seeing one at Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix, back in 1988.

Re: 1988 Caprice

I've never heard anything about that in my life! It's not documented anywhere I've ever seen. Where's this car for sale? I'll buy it today!

Re: 1988 Caprice

And you're positive it's an '88? VIN checks out? How much they asking? What kinda condition? Why are you reading this? You should be out buying that car.

Re: 1988 Caprice

Yes, there were a handful of 1988 two-door cars. These are not on any list anywhere, they were never 'official' and existed solely because GM had some 2DSD chassis left over after the 1987 model year. You will not find them in any book as an official offering. Any 1988 model year Monte Carlo exists for the same reason - 1987 was the last official year for that as well.

Similarly, my sister's ex drove a 2000 model year Lumina. These also aren't official (as the Impala replaced the Lumina for Y2K).

Re: 1988 Caprice

Actually, 2000 Luminas ARE listed, but were intended only as SEO (police & taxi) and rental fleet vehicles. Nice piece of info in the B-bodies and Montes.

Re: 1988 Caprice

There must have been a lot of chassis left over for the Monte carlo to have for model year 1988. I used to see a bunch of them around and for sale over the years. Probably their numbers are more than the '88 2 dr. Caprice or 2000 Lumina.

Re: 1988 Caprice

Jeez I had my hopes up for nothing...oh well. So of these 500 or less 88 coupes out there, I wonder how many are still on the road...

Re: 1988 Caprice

'87s are hard enough to find as it is. I hadn't even heard of the '88 coupe until this thread came about.
