98 Ford Contour Speedometer intermittent

I have a 98 Contour with a speedometer that goes out quite often. It seems to only do this after I fill up with gas. I have no idea why this would be or if it just seems to be a coincidence. After driving for a few days, the speedometer kicks back on and works fine until I fill up with fuel again. When the speedometer goes out, the cruise control obviously goes out with it. If somebody could give me a pointer, I would be appreciative.

do any of the other guages go out?

mine did this about a year ago and then a few months later it just stopped working. i had to have the entire cluster replaced. if this is the problem it will also cause your odomitter to stop working. i would have it checked.
