Love for maximas....and a little help

hey guys..i sold my 1995 BMW 740IL with 220k on it with a almsot broken tranny and bought myself a 1995 Nissan Maxima SE 5-Speed. i have to say, i love it...it does 23 MPG not 15 like my BMW..lol...i just wanna get to know the people on this fourm........couple questions....i noticed that my maxima is diffrent than the 1997 through 1999. diffrent faces. and tail lights....so i was wondering if it would be posible to do a swap, like lets say put a 1998 nissan maxima front end (bumper, lights, hood, fenders) onto my frame. and if the tail lights are same size and if they can be bolted in....thanks guys......also, im kinda in need of a tranny problem...my syncros are messed up....what is better? a rebuild or swap?

What is the problem? If clutch does not fully disengage, adjust & swap fluid. Change gearbox oil to fully synthetic motor oil (exceeds gearbox oil specs from 90's). Some say xr 'snake oil' -additives do the job: I guess its cheaper to try first those...

I'd find a good known replacement if problem is severe and cannot be fixed. Then also plan for replacing all possible seals, axle boots etc.

Re: Love for maximas....and a little help

Welcome to the maxima section. Gland you came over to the brighter side of things. Maxima's are amazing cars and a lot of fun. Your asking some fun questions that you may not always get answered here in this forum. There's not a lot of people that hang out here. Mostly just post about problems people are having. Nahkapohjola knows his stuff when it comes to that. Mods are another story. First off you can do a front end bumper swap. The 99 bumper will fit right on, however, the old grill will leave a nice gap so you will need to replace it as well. No need to change the hood, fenders, lights or other components. The tail lights are different sizes. 95-96 and 97-99 are slightly different so you cant buy 99's tail lights and put them in. Your problems with the syncros your having may be as easy as changing the gearbox fluid to a full synthedic. If that dosent work then have the syncros replaced. It's cheaper then a new tranny. Unless your doing the work yourself. Good luck and if you have any questions about mods fell free to PM me.

Re: Love for maximas....and a little help

pennzoil makes a tranny fluid called synchromesh, it's supposed to help with grinding issues, my buddy ran it in his car and swears by it.

Re: Love for maximas....and a little help

hey. so i went to buy the syncromesh and i decided on Royal Purple, and i asked at pep boys and they said i need 5 quarts.....that doesnt seem reasonalbe to me......i used 5 quarts to change tranny oil and diff oil in a RWD 1996 Nissan 240sx and the tranny there is much bigger....also we changed tranny oil in a Acura RSX base model and it took 2 quarts......so im kinda confused....anybody know how much i should buy?

Re: Love for maximas....and a little help

5 quarts is about right for a manual tranny. Just make sure you let it drain for an hour or so to get it all out. Just be luck it's not an auto. Auto requires 4 for the pan and 5 for the TQ Converter.
