I only have 1 1/2 turns lock to lock... normal? Seems like very little travel

I can turn the wheel about .7 turns to the left from center and just under 1 turn to the right (360ish degrees). I checked and found that from full left to full right the wheel only turns 1.5 times... is this normal? What controlls steering lock?

Is something adjusted odd in the rack for school cars?

Checked again... more like 1.75 turns lock to lock.

too much caster in most school cars, look at your upper a arms, your car a penske might be adjsuted differently. I do not know. But my car was set by the school and the shop the Wirewheels used and they set it up wrong. Look at the pictures of the GTS cars on ww site the arms are correct. alot of caster tightens up the steering, I do not know if it would change the total lock to lock. I have a hard time getting under the wheel with it on, good work on new projects.

I wouldn't call it "wrong", the car is setup to push and be very predictable at the limit which is what they were gonig for in a learning/school car. It'd be a demolition derby to send noobs out in a car that's tail happy at the limit.

But yeah my car is setup w/ the A-arm flared out to give a good bit of positive caster.

I'm curious what the number actually is, because I read it was supposed to be around 7 degrees. In the Corvettes you want 6-8 degrees positive caster in the car for optimal handling and steering feedback.

I don't believe the allignment will alter lock to lock steering... I thnk the rack has travel limiters somewhere.

Just curious if anyone else on here could go and check. Turn your wheel all the way to the left, mark a spot, then all the way to the right and count the total rotation.

Just spoke with a buddy who used to road race a prepared '03 Cobra. He said the rack in that car was 1.75 turns lock/lock to keep the tires off the control arms.

My car is the same way. The turning radius is limited. One way to limit the traver is to install spacers inside the race. I don't know if that is how Panoz did theirs but it is the easiest way.

^ Haha... I know I know... even the tightest turn at VIR (4) requires 180 degrees max.
