Factory Radio/CD player 2000 GT
Had a problem with my factory radio the past couple of years. Rear speakers work very infrequently...may come on for a few minutes and then go off? Also in the past couple of months the radio display has been working intermittently.....Not working most of the time?
Any ideas on what may be happening? Probably time to replace? |

Re: Factory Radio/CD player 2000 GT
I have an '00 GTP and the display on that radio went out or scambled often. Only problem I've had with speakers though was a tweeter due to a loose connection. I would just replace it. Mine loved to skip CDs, it was very annoying.

Re: Factory Radio/CD player 2000 GT
Thanks for the response.
I will probably replace on the weekend. I think the rear speaker issue is with the player and not the speakers so not worth the hassle to try and fix. |

Re: Factory Radio/CD player 2000 GT
Replaced the factory radio with an aftermarket Pioneer Stereo and the rear speakers are still not working.
Any ideas? Are the rear wires fused somewhere? Do they both run down the same side? Is it possible that both rear speakers are blown? They came on a couple of times for a short period with the factory radio and stopped again??? |

Re: Factory Radio/CD player 2000 GT
The factory speakers are probably bad. My 99 GT did the same thing, and it was the speakers. I replaced the factory ones with some nice Pioneer 6x9's and a $6 wiring kit so I didn't have to splice the factory wiring. To get ot the rear speakers, you'll have to remove the rear seat. There are two pull tabs that release the lower cushion (one on either side of the center hump). Once the lower cusion is out of the way, there are 4 bolts that retain the bottom of the seat back (2 10mm headed, and 2 13mm headed, the 13mm ones also secure the rear seat belts to the floor). Once those are removed, lift up on the upper seat cushion to release the upper hooks. You'll see some big round plastic retainers that hold the shelf carpet to the body, pull those out and the carpet and speaker covers slide off as one piece, which will expose the screws that hold the factory speakers in (5.5mm heads I believe).
Good luck
