block crack common when block freezes?

another issue with this car is it leaks lots of antifreeze seeming to come from the front of the engine. i know the water pump is located on the rear of the engine on my 98 sho 3.4 dohc.

what could be leaking there?
could it be the block?
could it be something simple?

i will be checking whenever possible but before i fix the spun cam should i be worried about a cracked block?

Re: block crack common when block freezes?

Several things can happen when a block freezes.

1. Freeze plugs should blow out first.

2. Aluminum expands/cracks before cast iron. Could have expanded enough to break head or intake gasket seal. Could have cracked casting itself.

Did you get a spun camshaft bearing before or after leak developed? Is there water in the oil?
