disk brake drag

Hello,
How much drag is acceptical for a '97 2 door Geo. Sometimes I come up to a stop sign and roll back a little. Other times I come up to the same stop sign and it won't roll. The last leg of my daily drive I have only two slow downs (not stopping). I rolled in to the garage and I could smell something very hot. I found it to be my passenger front brake. I never had this problem last summer, it seemed to start happening this winter. Could my brake fluid be freezing. What do you think? My Geo has around 180,000 miles on it.

Could very well be your front brake has finally seized up. Jack up the car and try to spin the tire. It should spin with just a hint of drag. I've roached disc brakes and it usually always damages the rotor. Brakes luckely are something very simple to do.

Sounds like a sticky caliper. New ones are $50 each. If I were you, I'd replace both and give it a thorough fluid flush. That way, you know you're good.

Either spending 50 bucks for new calipers, or spend about 10, for caliper kits is the best solution. I've had this happen a few times in the past. Often times, this is from the pistons sticking in the calipers from rust and corrosion. Simply remove the pistons and polish them up clean, then hone out the calipers. New caliper kits and fluid, you should be good for another 180k

I did the caliper change this weedend and what a difference. I did a flush as well, the fluid was yellow/brown. No heat build up when I checked it at work this morning (I could touch the disks without getting burnt).
Auto zone had calipers at $43 + core each.
