lossing coolant? coolant res.

do our cars have coolant lines to the turbos or just oil. im sure its just oil but ive heard ppl had coolant lines aswell as oil lines to the turbos? my issue is my coolant light comes on and the resivour gets low\empty but i fill it back up and then a week later its low again (coolant light comes back on). its been cold so i was wondering if that has anything to do with it, and ik im not burning it threw the motor bc my exhaust isnt smoking or anything, im confused... or my resivour might have a small crack or something idk, any ideas? i dont notice any leaks anywhere when i look and no puddles under car after its parked. i put a steel braided hose on my coolant pipe, i was thinking it might have been loose but i tightened it up, and since it hasnt been as cold as it has been when this was occuring it hasnt happed again.(also when the light would come on, it would be on then go off then come back on while i was driving then would stay on after a while

yes our turbos have water going to them. Just follow the sweet smell of antifrezze till you figure it out.

Re: lossing coolant? coolant res.

If it isn't leaking out then it's being boiled into steam somehow. Either by leaking onto something hot or by getting into the combustion chamber. You wouldn't necessarily see steam.

Re: lossing coolant? coolant res.

I havent found the problem yet but its to cold out to get into detail but ive changed the thermostat thinking it was bad and thats y i was loosing coolant, but its still losing coolant, what would cause it to loose a full res. tank of coolant in like a day or 2? after i did the thermostat i filled the overflow to the top and with in the next 2 days my light was on again, im stumpeed i dont think it burning threw the turbos would cause it to lose that much that fast, what could be the problem?

Re: lossing coolant? coolant res.

i would do a compression test, just to be safe. The only way to lose coolant that fast if it's not in a puddle on the ground is out of the exhaust.

Re: lossing coolant? coolant res.

what could it be if it was on the ground in a puddle? my dad says he sees it on the ground sometimes rite where my overflow would be.

First thing I would check is the hose that goes inside the overflow. If it's not connected, or missing that will cause it. Also, make sure that the cap is staying on and sealing. If that's the problem you can buy a new cap with inner hose for about $15 from the dealer. I had to when I first got mine. Also, check the radiator cap. If the rubber is cracked and or deformed it isn't sealing and can cause the system to de-pressurize. A new one will run you about $5 at a parts store.
