Extremely cold weather has an effect on everthing. Is your check engine light on? I've see many problems with Fords where the IAC (idle air control) valve/motor fails and will not allow the engine to idle. Yet, the car will start and run as long as the throttle is open. This condition will not necessarily set a trouble code, thus will not illuminate your "check engine light". This may be difficult to diagnose without proper info/wiring diagrams. Good luck, let me know if I can help further.
