Ohh boy...

Okay..I purchased some street glow projector lights that hook into the cig. lighter port. Well I didn't want to put it in and pull it out everytime I wanted to use them so I spliced into the wires. So now I tried to put a switch instead in the middle and then reconnect the cig. adapter part and that did not work what so ever. I don't want to use that idea anymore,so I tried to rewire everything back up..red=positive black=negative..I connected everything(I twisted the wires togeather and soldered them) so now it's all ONE wire again. I stuck it in my cig. port to see If it works and the adapter started smoking and..melted a little Only one light came on and there are two. I really can't explain it any better then that. Am I not suppose to twist the wires togeather?

-------< >-------
I know this sux but this is what it looked like. Where the "<" is, in each wire going outwards there is a red wire AND black wire.

Well If anyone can tell me what I did wrong I would appreciate it. I hope I didn't fu&# it up!

Re: Ohh boy...

I'm a little confused about the whole "one wire" thing. I imagine you did this, but you need to connect the red to the red wire, solder it or cap it, tape it up so there isn't any exposed metal wire showing. Then do the same thing with the black wire. If you have the red touching the black, you will short them out and probably blow the fuse.

Sorry, it's hard for me to explain..:P Well there are two projector lights with there own wires and as you go down the wire they become one..kind of like earphones.Okay, so after I cut the wires in half I then pulled them apart, now again I have two split ends. When I cut the wires in half I noticed inside the outer protective wire there are two colored wires Black and Red. I had to remove the outer wires on those to expose the actual wiring.Since there are two diffrent wires on each side that makes a total of four wires. Now I connected the red to red and black to black to the other half of the orginal wire with the adapter pieace that is attatched. I did the same on the other side. I'm sorry If I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about ..lol. Ugh..maybe I should just go look at it and see my mistake..you said something about red and black NOT being able to touch , I think I might have taped both of them togeather. I have to go untape everything and see.
This is DEF. a learning process for me. When I find out I will let you know..
Well thanks for trying to help me out I'll bbs with my info.
