1992 Chev Lumina 3.1L (T) Turn signal fuse blows out all the time

My 92 Lumina 3.1L (T) motor / (W) body turn signal 10 amp fuse blows out every time the turn signals are activated. I tried using a larger amp fuse up to a 25 amp and it still blows out. It dosent matter what direction the turn signal is activated. The hazzard warning flashers work just fine.
Last summer I replaced the turn signal/cancel cam in steering column ( using GM part ) due to turn signals not canceling out and the switch stalk loose. After the repair everthing has been fine untill now. I have heard that if turn signals inop. or smoke emitted from column it is always a turn signal switch ( in column ).
Do I have another faulty turn signal switch????
Any help greatly appreciated

The hazzard flashers are on a different flasher, circuit. Have you tried replacing the flasher? If that shorts internally it can cause the prob. you refer to.
Check that first, then check your switch with a test probe. If not there, check wiring in steering column for shorts.

Re: 1992 Chev Lumina 3.1L (T) Turn signal fuse blows out all the time

Thank you Bearwulf for the correct and fast diagnostic information. Tonight I was able to remove the bolster panel under dash and located the turn signal flasher to the right of the steering column. Long behold I discovered the turn signal flasher ( aftermarket, heavy duty, electronic type ) was crushed ( probably from my turn signal switch repairs last summer by lowering the column to slide the wire loom through ) and was shorted internal. It literally fell apart in my hand. I replaced with new flasher ( GM part ) and now turn signal operation is normal without the fuse blowing out every time the directionals are activated. This is great relief due to the pain it was replacing the turn signal switch last summer and I dont want to have to do that job again. I have read through your posts and you seem very knowledgable with these GM (W) body cars. Thanks again!!!
