I was driving on the turnpike the other day going 80 and my car started overheathing so I pulled over and checked my fluids. everything was fine so I kept go. then again it started overheating so I slowed down and the temp went down. I then pulled in to a gas station. the guy there said it might be my headgasket. so I didn't risk it and towed my car home. but then I drove my car so that my friend could see it and he says it might be my thermostat becuae if it was my headgasket my car would over heat all the time.

I don't know what to check. COULD YOU GUYS MAKE A LIST for me to check. if you need me to write more infor tell me

have you checked your ecu yet
and as tfor the headgasket, if it is blown you will be able to see like a white smoke commin out of your exhaust

it could possibly be your thermostat..... you might wanna check it out....

Are you losing coolant? Either the raditor fan isn't kicking on or the thermostat is stuck closed. I found some thermo that if they fail, stick in the open postion so your car doesn't overheat.

or you can just remove the thermostat, you dont need it, it's only there so you dont have to wait so long for your heater to kik in?

And there goes your gas mileage too since it will take twice as long for the car to warm uo and the twice as long for the ecu to lower the idle.

Change your thermostat, it's only like $12 anyway. If that doesn't fix it, check your water pump.

as for the thermostat I don't know where it is. I think I'm going to change my thermostat and flush out my radiatior

Follow the lower rad hose to a metal housing. Take apart the metal housing and it is inside.

k here is a list of all the things that could be wrong with yoru car

headgasket
thermostat
water pump
radiator
cooling fan
coolant leak somewhere, check all hoses
if you smell coolant in the car, thne its the heater core

Good list, but don't forget the radiator cap. If it isn't pressurising the system then your boiling point will be lower than it should be. Toss it and put a new one on in case.

Check the radiator fins for clogging (bugs, rust etc) and also inside that scale hasn't built up and choked the waterways. If so, get a recore done

thermostat is what u need it happend to me with my ZC motor .... but soon after my head gasket got cracked so im iffy who knows

Doesnt sound like a head gasket to me. I would check to see if you have air in your cooling system. I would losen that bleeder screw on the top of the motor to see if any air comes out. That may fix you problem. Oh ya Change the thermostat you must have one in there because if you pull it out you can speed the flow of the water/coolent flow allowing the coolent to flow too fast thru the raditor and not give it long enuff to cool causing overheating problem again. This was a major problem with 350 chevy motors(top to bottom flow) and could be a problem with hondas to since they flow bottom to top.

Do these one at a time you will figure out the problem

1. Check for air in system

2. change thermostat

3. flush out the system (possibley rot out the radatior)

4. do a leak down test to see if the head gasket is leaking.
