I have a 97 Cavalier Z24. Until recently the heat in my car has never put out much but it was enough to not go through the trouble of figuring out the problem and/or fixing it. Unfortunately, a couple days ago when I turned my heat on it was making a soft fluttering noise and baaarely blowing out the vents. The air coming out the vents was warm/hot, it just wasn't blowing out. Now it won't even make the flutter noise. It seems pretty obvious to me the heater fan is the problem but since I've never encountered this problem figured I'd get some advise and suggestions before attempting to fix it. Anything is greatly appreciated cuz I'm COLD
and don't have a garage to fix it in.Oh and... Radio and everything else works just fine. |

Re: 97 cavalier z24- heater fan?
Most likely is the blower motor. Or it could be the resistor gone as well.

Re: 97 cavalier z24- heater fan?
Okay, thanks! Also, I forgot I've got another question I'm hoping I can get help with. When I turn the heat to defrost, the light above the a/c button turns on as if I had pushed the button to turn it on. Is it suppose to do that? It won't turn off if I try pushing the button and it doesn't do it when the heat is set at floor/defrost combination.
THANKS again!!! |

Re: 97 cavalier z24- heater fan?
yes, its supposed to do that, it uses the AC compressor to dry the air out, which seriously helps with fog on the inside of the window

Re: 97 cavalier z24- heater fan?
The A/C compressor indicator has nothing to do with the lack of air delivery.
The "fluttering" noise may have been caused by debris in the blower wheel, or may have been a bearing in the blower motor. Fortunately, both the blower and the blower resistor are relatively easily accessible on a Cavvy. It can be removed from inside the passenger compartment, under the ductwork on the passenger side:
