i have a 90 galant and had problems with the battery keeping a charge so i replaced the alternator and battery w/brand new. now the only way the car keeps running is when im hooked up through jumper cables to another vehicle and as soon as i disconnect the cables the car dies immediately. any suggestions on what the problem could be??? thank you in advance

Re: new alt & battery car will not run on its own
check your connections, check the cables to the starter, the connection from the cable to the terminal.
If your battery is good and fully charged and another vehicals power will keep it running, That to me sounds like a connection problem. If your alt. was not charging and your battery was fully charged, your car should run off the battery. disconnect the terminal and it should stall. check your new battery and make sure it is fully charged. |

Re: new alt & battery car will not run on its own
You the Multi-Meter To Check If the Alternator take charges at least 14 volts while car running. Maybe defective (NEW) alternator if volts drop and drop until car die.
Another possibilty is The BIG RED (+) CABLE is bad. There is high resistance in that cable to avoid Alternator to charge to the battery. |
