Fuel sytem Problem: 94 4.3L

i have a 94 caprice classic ls 4.3l and ever since the the weather has gotten really cold (20-30 degrees) I have noticed drivability problems like maybe once every other week while im driving the car it will just die and after less than a minute it starts right back up and runs good. Then last night the car would not start at all. I narrowed it down to the fuel pump because I did not hear the buzz. I asked my cousin to start the car while I beat on the fuel tank and then the car started right up and ran good the rest of the night. Now the problem is ive changed my fuel pump 3 time sin three years. The last time I replaced it was last jan. Can anyone tell me why am i having these problems when is really COLD and can this problem be something other than the fuel pump? Matter of fact the car did the same thing its doing now a week after i replaced the fuel pump last january but once the weather started to get warmer I never had that problem again until now when the weather is really cold. I'd appreciated if someone could help me because I cant afford another car right now.

Have you ever considered that the problem might be something else, such as the fuel pump relay? It could also be in the wiring to the pump. A number of causes - narrow it down and see if you can find it.

20-30 degrees is warm, tomorrow we are supposed to hit 30 and I will be out in a t-shirt.

I agree with the above post, find what is causing the problem as you are just treating symtoms.

measure voltage at pump should be more than 12volts engine running also make sure ground is clean and best to remove clean and replace screw if rusted..........low voltage at pump will damage motor as well as keeping tank below 1/4 full.........

Just for sh*ts, run some dry gas... any mositure in the tank will freeze below 32 degrees. If for whatever reason some moisture may have possibly gottet past the screen into the pump and frosen it'll keep the pump from spinning until broken loose. It's unlikely, but would explain not showing symptoms in warmer weather.

Not a bad idea.
IsoHeet will mix with water allowing it to be run through with the fuel.
