P0100 code after misfire and replacing ICM?
Ok! Replaced my ICM to get rid of the misfire problem I was having and it's been running great but now I am getting the P0100 code. I reset the code once only for it to come back again. I was thinking mabye it was the MAF sensor but I have a 2.2 Ecotech which is absent the MAF sensor. What should I be looking at with this code?

Re: P0100 code after misfire and replacing ICM?
What year is this 2.2 GA ??
P0100 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Malfunction 2.2 ecotec's do have a MAF sensor. I'd say your MAF wires are shorted or the MAF sensor is bad. Also has your air filter been changed recently ?

I changed the air filter about 5,000 miles ago. I also want to add that I don't get the code right away after an OBD2 reset or disconnecting the battery. Another wierd thing that is happening is a rock like substance coming out of my tailpipe. If I shake the muffler it sounds like a can with rocks in it. Any idea what that could be (other than the local kids putting rocks in my tailpipe) ?

Re: P0100 code after misfire and replacing ICM?
Yah those sticky thread on the MAF should have said for up to 2000-2002 , the 2.4 doesnt have one but I'm 80% sure the 2.2 does.
The MAF would be located in the air intake, tube close to the filter box. Thier are two sensors in the air intake tubing, the MAF has 3 wires, a smaller 2 wire sensor is the intake air temp- IAT about the size of your pinky. Hope that helps.

Re: P0100 code after misfire and replacing ICM?
Your '03 may not have one.
I just worked on an '05 Cobalt with the 2.2 ecotec and it had one, but it was different looking then the V6 MAF. On the sandy stuff thats probly just from the road, could be pieces of the Cat Conv.

The sandy stuff. Bad thing if it's from the Cat? As I said...I did drive it with the misfire (about 7-10 miles) so I am hoping I didn't screw that. It's a gray rock like substance that crumbles between the fingers with a bit of force. |

Re: P0100 code after misfire and replacing ICM?
I'm pretty sure the 2.2s should have a MAF sensor. Maybe that's your problem
![]() Did you look everywhere from the air filter to the intake manifold? I havn't seen one in a while, but I thought the MAF was burried under some plastic on the engine side of the air tube. How many wires going into your one sensor? On some vehicles (may or may not apply to the 2.2, I've only seen a few of them) the MAF and IAT are one piece with 4-6 wires coming out of it. If it really doesn't have one, check the MAP sensor. There is a TSB on GM trucks about the MAP sensor showing the barometric pressure wrong, which makes the computer think the air density is higher or lower, which screws with the expected MAF value.

Re: P0100 code after misfire and replacing ICM?
Roger that fellas. I did look for it and I can't find anything remotely close to it. I did talk to a service tech at a local dealer and he said the 2.2's do not have a MAF sensor. I am baffled now.
I just got done replacing the ignition tumbler and swtich cause I went to start it last night and the key wouldn't turn at all (YAY!). There goes another $350.00 down the drain on this thing! I haven't gotten the SES light lately so I will keep an eye out for it. I am thinking that I may have a bad O2 sensor so I am expecting it too come back soon.
