CRX is dead....kinda, plz help me

Ok, heres my situation: first off, its been raining all day and most of the night, not sure if it will matter, just lettin u all know. My car wouldnt start this evening so i got a new battery, cuz that seemed like the problem, cuz my car didnt have enough juice to even crank. The car started up afterward so i figured everything was aight. I went to the movies and afterward my car still started right up. Then i went to kmart to drop off some people, and my car was just sitting there, and the head unit just shut off after a min. So i turned off the car and was gonna start it again to see if the head unit will work, but then again it wouldnt even crank. I got some peeps to push start it and then it was running alright, thats when i began realizing weird stuff. When my headlights are on, only my speedometer works, nothing else on my gauge cluster works and my head unit wont work. When the just the running lights were on, the entire gauge cluster works, but my head unit will just turn on, the off, on, off, repeatedly. When my lights are turned all the way off, everything works. So now im trying to figure out if its my alternator or if something is just gettin wet. Plz lemme know wat you think. Thanx a bunch.

When my alternator gave out a while ago I noticed my headunit died, it came on again for a while though. Then later on it died on the highway and then took it to the shop. But certain things start like going on and off like a ghost is in the car.

Yeah, it is your alternator. I will almost bet you that it is your alternator. Do you have a stereo system? A lot of times stereo systems will put strain on the alternator, causing it to die on you. It is recomended that you change your battery when you change your alternator because if you dont, it will be a on-going cycle between repacing the two. Trust me, my dad is a mechanic. The same thing happened to my friends car. Hope you get your shit straight. :flash:

It is definatly your alt. you should be able to get one at an auto parts store for less then $100. If you never did it be fore it is a small project.
You have to take the driver's side axel out to drop the alt.

I heard if you take off he alt bracket and shimmy the alternator around you can get it out without having to take out the axel.

Yeah, its fixededed. On my way to western auto to get my alternator tested yesturday my car completly died on my, i was stuck in the middle of an intersection for like 10 min, it was terrible. Eventually my step dad came and jumped my car and i took it to my friends garage. Then i went out and just bought the alternator, and installed it later that day. It only took about 45 min for me and my friend to do it, which is probably the quickest install we've had. Im just happy my baby runs again, that was a very rough 12 hrs.

glad you got it fixed yo...where in the hell do you buy car parts on the Eastern Shore anyway ...that is like God's country out there..plenty of tractor parts tho - lol!

I had a Mazda 626 with a bad alternator and I made a trip from MA to MD with it..I finally figured about 60 miles into the 500 mile trip that if I whacked the alternator with a hammer, it would work for about 20 minutes...as long as I kept my foot on the gas it would keep running..so I had the wife (now ex-wife ) hold the gas pedal on the side of the road while I whacked the alternator every 30 miles or so. I could tell it was not working again when the car got cold, cuz the fan wasn't blowing any warm air in anymore and my daughter (then about 6) complained her feet were cold..lol

Theres actually quite a few places, we got an AAP (they're awesome, very cool ppl there), western auto (i got a friend that works there, so i get some hookup, not a lot), and i an island imports (i havent been there, but i imagine its cool). Its quite bling bling for just a little island, unless u wanna do something like go to the movies, or bowling, or the mall, or.....basically anything fun, then u gotta go to annapolis and glen burnie, bling bling. Yeah, so thats my island.
