97 Blazer Engine change

Hi All,
I'm trying to help a friend out that is looking to replace an engine in his 97 S10 Blazer with a 4.3 engine. It has a W code on it. He knows some one with a 94 S10 Pickup with a 4.3 engine with a Z code on the engine. Can anyone tell me if the pickup engine can be put into the Blazer.
Thanks.

Re: 97 Blazer Engine change

Welcome to AF.

The '94 engine will not work in the '97. Basiclly anything '96 and up will work. Pretty much any 4.3 from '96-up will work too(s-10, astro/safari, blazer/jimmy/envoy).

Re: 97 Blazer Engine change

The book(the Hollander) says 2000 and up will not fit,it is wrong. It will fit and I have done 2 of them so far.The only differances are the bellhousing and starter bolts, the 2000 and up 4.3 bellhousing and starter bolts are metric.Make sure the yard does not throw them away and you need them.
