Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

Hi--New here and interested in the Panoz school/race cars that are available, but I can't find any classification/group for racing other than the Esperante GTS in GT2(SCCA). Am I missing something? Don't really want to do Time Trials or track days and not overly excited about having to join another organization like the Historical group tho at my age that's probably where I should be! Any help/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Nick

Re: Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

NASA has a class for just about anything.

I dont know much about the Performance Touring racing at NASA, but the GT-RA classes in PTB. http://performancetouring.com/index.php?categoryid=1 I would guess PTB cars would run with the Thunder cars.

I dont think the GTx can run in American Iron because they arent street cars.

Re: Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

Thanks, checked and it may be classed there but is not a "listed" vehicle. Will send email to NASA-SE and ask. Nick

Ken Brewer is the PT director for the SE. He should be able to help you. He's not hard to find on nasaforums

Re: Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

I checked the NASA Pro site after your first message and it wasn't listed or maybe I'm going blind! Answered your reply and sent Jim Pantas an email asking him. I'll send Ken an email tomorrow! Thanks again for your help-have read most of the threads and am impressed with the friendliness and spirit of helpfulness of the posters. Nick

Re: Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

The car could run ST2 or PT easily... I posted on NASA forums and they were great about figuring it out. I'll be doing HPDE/TT the rest of this year then go racing next year.

Re: Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

Hi Brian, thanks for the reply--sent an email to Performance Touring NASA-SE also to SCCA asking them about both cars ie., the 4.6 and the 5.0 liter. I've been following your work on the Panoz and the Z06-both are looking great. Tell me how you have the time to do one much less two! The Z06 took more "balls" than I can even think of!! Actually, I even like your nonOEM color choice! Thanks again, Nick
Do you get to any of the SCCA/NASA races at VIR? If so, maybe we'll run into each other..I run SpecMiata--not well, but it's fun-usually.

Re: Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

^ Yeah... I'll be at the NASA event in February and again in March shaking down the car. 5 years of HPDEing in a Z06 makes driving seem easy So I want to get the car dialed in and get a feel for it.

I'm running the car in HPDE3 and my father will be driving it in HDPE2. As for time... well shit it's a full time job I've spent most every night after work out in Suffolk working on the vette.

Now that the vette is in paint I'm hammering through the Panoz in the few weeks while the Vette is in the shop getting fresh paint. The Panoz is fun/easy... sanding the vette was a tedious PITA! But targa top Z06 will be worth it in the end.

Let me know what they tell you? I figured I would up the power some this winter with a H/C packange and maybe a carb conversion so I can run ST2 which is all power/weight anyway. If replica cobras can run ST2 this thing can... it's basically the same thing but a different body.

Re: Is there a SCCA/NASA Class?

It will be interesting to see what your contacts say as far as classification. At the SCCA run-offs this year there were two Panoz GTS cars. They were in the GT2 class. I'm pretty sure they had 351 ci Windsor motors, but not 100% certain. Unfortunately they crashed each other out in the 2nd corner. They had qualified 4th and 6th.
