new motor, but which one?

ok i have a 96 eclipse non turbo. i got the car really cheep from a friend and it has everything except the motor, has manual transm, ecu, computer and everything. i want to get a motor to put in it, but i figured while i had to get one and spend 800+ for a new one i could get a faster and better one than what came out of it. i was looking at the 4g63T motor or any of the other motors out of the evo. and motors that come with that arent too much more than the stock motor that came out, and it would be turbo'd. what should i do?

Re: new motor, but which one?

This topic has been gone over many many times.
Use the search button with things like 420a 4g63 swap etc.
These engines are not direct replacement if you want the 4g63 you might as well scrap the trans the ecu and everything else that the car came with because basically no parts are interchangeable. Its not a very cost effective way of doing things.

Re: new motor, but which one?

Not to mention, the 420a and 4g63t sit 180 degrees opposite of each other...

They were not pointless replies. It is just a simple fact that people don't do these swaps for a few reasons.
1. Most people want AWD so they ditch their RS and GS's and get a GSX or TSI AWD.
2. If people want a turbo on their motor, then they just build their 420a's and turbocharge them or upgrade to a better model.
3. For the few people who have actually swapped a different motor in, they have wasted a lot of time and money IMO because it's just easier to start with a better model that already has the 4g63t.

Sure, you could try and weld up your own mounts and shit and try to put the 4g63t in your car, but you realize you will be changing nearly everything on the car. Not just the motor... Your gonna have to change the motor, tranny, axles, front suspension, ECU, wiring harness, etc... It is not a simple swap like you would be doing in say an F-body upgrading from a v-6 to a v-8. Everything between the two models of DSM's are completely different.

If that information doesn't help you then I don't know what will... Nobody here has actually done the swap. Good luck finding somebody who actually has done it already...

Re: new motor, but which one?

iv found people that have done these kinds of swaps all the time, guess it was pointless to ask people that dont kno much about cars or this specifiic thing about cars anyway dont mean to say u dont kno anything about cars, just meaning this specific part of it. and the other parts mentioned rnt hard to switch over/replace, and i work at an automotive store get the stuff pretty cheep, was just wanting to kno if anyone had any luck with any specific motor over another. such as more hp and torq. with the 4g63t motor or just the non-turbo and then turbo kit for it since its a little cheeper to get ahold of.

Re: new motor, but which one?

I know people have done the evo motor. Why don't you do that and then just update us in like a year when you get it done. And don't forget to keep receipts. Man you are being an real ass when if you ask almost anyone on here they will all tell you what brian and I told you.
PS We all know a lot about cars ESPECIALLY DSM"s

Re: new motor, but which one?

I think that this thread is done, its going nowhere. I've got a couple suggestions for you before your next post:

A) Drop your attitude. We're trying to get rid of the "tribal mentality" here and its threads just like this one that bring it out of us. Remember, YOU asked US for advice, dont get your panties in a twist when you get it.
B) Search and read. A 45 second search would tell you exactly what we think about a 420a to 4g63 swap. www.vfaq.com, ours and tuners' tech articles, and the search button should be your first stop before askin a question.
C) For christ's sake, type like you've been through the fourth grade. We're not English nazi's and we dont expect you to type like you're writing a masters thesis, but there is no reason you cant exercise atleast a basic understanding of grammar, punction, and spelling. I saw this thread right after you wrote it and didnt post in it solely because I didnt feel like reading it six times to figure out what the hell you were asking, and dont think I am the only one.

If you dont want to follow these guidelines then that is your choice, but remember that people are just going to get more and more annoyed and help you less and less.
