Oil pan question

I have a 92 GS with 93K miles on it. I replaced timing belt and water pump approx 2k miles ago only because the labor was the same as whatever else they were doing and it would need to be done at some point anyway along with new motor mounts.

but when i went to acura dealer to have abs chip removed they said I need a new oil pan. Is this a big deal? If so, should I have it done b/c I am looking to sell the car right now anyway. Is it a big ticket item to have replaced?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. also I was having this problem where the car wouldn't start after driving for a while. I'd have to wait about 10 mins or so (eventho it felt like 20mins and embarassingas heck). But I found if i used premium gas every third fillup or so, it eliminated the problem. Can anyone explain the rationale to me? I don't get it.

What does ABS have to do with the Oil Pan?

Anyways, get a haynes/helms/factory manual. You should be able to find a Honda/Acura OEM repair manual in .pdf on a torrent search. Drain the oil, remove the bolts, remove the oil pan, clean the old gasket off the block, install new gasket, new oil pan, torque down to the proper specs, install new drain plug and crush washer, re-fill with oil.

As for gas, some premium gases have cleaners in them. Maybe you have a clogged fuel filter, injectors, ro some junk that the cleaners in the premium is cleaning out? IDK, that's just a total shot in the dark and probably no help, but oh well...

I am a clueless car dummy as well as a disabled gal, so I don't think me and the OEM repair manual will become buddies anytime soon. You all make it sound so simple. I am freaking out at just changing the passenger mirror that was cracked and in reality it is very elementary. Even the braindead shoud be able to follow the VERY simple instructions, but I'm so nervous!

As far as the gas goes, I was just sharing what 'appears' to have worked for me. I certainly don't claim any expertise nor could I explain why it works.

Oh, no, you didn't post in the wrong forum!! Sorry, I was just trying to help, and I couldn't figure out what on earth the ABS code had to do with the Oil Pan, lol.

As for the gas, IDK, I wasn't claiming you where wrong by any means. Just trying to give you my idea on why it may work or "appear" to work. I could be wrong, it was a guess as to why it works.

As for the oil pan, replacing your oil pan really isn't that hard to do. Don't freak out about changing mirrors, follow the instructions and you'll do fine!! Don't be so nervous, really...it's not hard. As for the oil pan, if you know any people who aren't afraid to try it, you could also download the factory repair manual and have them take a stab at it. If that's not an option, look for an honest mechanic if you need to change it. It really shouldn't take too long for them to do.

Thank you. Is there such a thing as an honest mechanic? I didn't think honest and mechanic could be used in the same sentence!

Anyway, I did the mirror myself so yippee!! I'm on a roll now!

Hmm...honest mechanic...that does sound weird...LOL...I know a few honest mechanics (sshh, don't tell them...I don't want to jinx it!!). They are friends of mine though, so maybe that doesn't count, hahaha. Seriously though, you are right...an honest mechanic is hard to find...but they are out there.

Where do your honest friends live??? I have some work for them if they are interested!!
