VR4 or EVO?

well, i'm not to happy with the looks of my "big" brakes, dual piston calipers, and AWD brembo slotted/drilled rotors... i want some more attractive brakes... so i guess, would VR4 oem 4-pot calipers and rotors be a direct bolt on? i know with the evo, a change in the knuckles is needed to fit the 160mm mounting bracket on the calipers... but i just want some brakes that look nasty as hell... so any input here would be great. just to clarify, as far as performance, the AWD brake set up is awesome! its more then enough... this is strictly all about appearence... i also know what bigger rims will be required over the stock 16' GST chromes... so i'm thinking 17' OZ Ultraleggra's wrapped in eagle F1's but what offset would i need to fit around these calipers? (leaning more tword the VR4 set up because the calipers have "Mitsubishi" lettered into them!)

Re: VR4 or EVO?

They will not be a direct bolt on. I believe that you would have to fab up a bracket that will allow you to bolt them up. Check tuners for a write up, Im pretty sure I saw one on there.

Re: VR4 or EVO?

ok saw the write up here and was wondering if anyone knows the difference between the 1g VR4 calipers and the 2g? because if i'm going to do it, i would probably prefer the 2g since they are newer... and less rust is always good IMO... not to mention they clean up way better

Re: VR4 or EVO?

In the write up he says if you buy the 2g calipers you will have to design your own bracket. So that means they are not the same but all you would have to do is make a different bracket for the caliper.

question, will the oem brake cylinder be enough to handel the brembro 4 pot front/2 pot rear brakes?

Re: VR4 or EVO?

OEM real calipers?...whats that?

I've never been a fan of the slotted and drilled rotors, but since they are brembo I guess its cool, and since they worked out for you it should be straight

Re: VR4 or EVO?

You may have to push the pedal down a little further to stop but the stock brake master cylinder should be fine.

I'm pretty sure on this too, I think there was even a difference between my stockers and my 2g AWD's. I remember taking it for a test drive after getting them in and bled... I pushed it down just a little and I didnt think it was working so I panic and slammed them. She stopped pretty quick .

Honestly though, I think vanity is a horrible reason to upgrade brakes. If you were autox'ing or road coursing or whatever and your 2g AWD's werent capable of the stopping power you need, then that would be one thing but just getting them to look cool isnt any better than an electronic BOV, a FMIC on a NT car, or dummy nitrous bottles in the trunk to fit the sub display.

dont be jelious i'll be rollin' with brembos... its ok! NO but really, i want to upgrade my rims, and everytime i see a dsm around here with the 13" rotors, and big ass calipers, i think (though i could kill most of them in a race) that car looks SICK as hell! and i just dont get that same thrill when i look at my whimpy ass stock chrome 16's with dinky little OEM brakes... so i'm going to get the BBS wheels off the evo MR, and the brembo brakes... and see hows looking sexier then!

Re: VR4 or EVO?

No thats cool. So what all exactly would I be getting if you decide to sell this stuff to me, because I'm really interested. I'm about to start a new job so I should have some moneys in a bit. My car has rear drums, and I want to convert to discs, so whatever else I need to do that, besides what I get from you I will just buy seperate.

From me you will get:
AWD Dual Piston calipers (L/R)
Caliper brackets (L/R)
AWD Front Brake pads (one set (4) that is almost new *axxis*,currently using them, and one *OEM AWD* BRAND NEW) got for free so... EH
banjo bolt SS brake lines for front calipers (L/R)
brembo drilled/slotted OEM AWD front rotors (L/R)
axxis rear brake pads (if you want them)
Brembo slotted/driller rear rotors (L/R)
thats all... as said before, i want to keep all the OEM parts for my GST which is my reasoning for keeping the rear calipers...

AWD calipers are painted red and branded with mitsubishi i'll get a pic up in a few mins..

EDIT:

PICS: as promised
FRONT:

REAR:
