91 Astro Blower not working

I have a 1991 astro, the blower motor quit while during our move, I tried to buy a replacement but the only thing available at the parts store (NAPA) has only one power connector on it whereas mine has 2. ( I assume one is power and the other ground )

The funny thing is that if the van is running with the blower turned on and I disconnect either of the wires and then plug them back in again the blower will stay running until we turn the van off. attempting to adjust the speed while driving results in the blower turning off.

any good guesses as to what whould be causing this ? and why would all the replacement motors have only a single wiring connector

thanks in advance

Re: 91 Astro Blower not working

That model year uses a single terminal hot wire-- you must transfer the grounding terminal from the old motor- you'll see how it works when you take the old one apart- In later model years they went to the sealed locking connector types- to eliminate corrosion problems.

Your motor fails in that respect-- Heck- I have seen folks drive them for over a year by kicking (with their foot) the blower motor on. - of course you just need to slam the hood in your case. The brushes are worn- it will only run if you knock the armature off center enough for it to spin on center. The motor needs replaced.
