Found A Hidden Switch In My Car

Hey, just wanted to know if this switch is supposed to be here lol. I keep finding all kinds of little suprises on this car... The guy who owned it before me was the orig owner since 95 so if its not factory, its his handy work.

Its a simple On/Off toggle switch but nothing happens when I toggle it. I am thinking about using it for my strobe lights

Guess to really find out what it is for I will have to follow it but after dealing with amp wireing today I really didnt feel like it. Kinda funny though.... did not even see the dam thing untill today and Iv had the car for about 4 months lol

Re: Found A Hidden Switch In My Car

I bet this is for a remote start or security system.
Do you have a remote starter?
I had that system installed on my vehical and they added a regular on off switch to shut that system down for service.
IE:
turn off the switch before disconectinng the battery.
something like that

Take it from me, you want to know your wiring! Not saying that you need one, but automotive electricians are very pricy. Just follow 'em.

Re: Found A Hidden Switch In My Car

Its not a factory switch and you could use it for your strobes.

My guess is it was used to turn the amp on/off

That's what I was thinking. Every car I've ever put subs in I've installed an amp on/off switch, and that looks like the perfect spot for one.

Re: Found A Hidden Switch In My Car

Uhhhh, why the hell woud they put a switch to turn of a car alarm? Thats got to be the dumbest thing I've heard this weekend for sure, with that anyone could just smash and flip the switch and have all the time in the world to take your stuff.

Re: Found A Hidden Switch In My Car

Whoa, no fighting guys. The concept sounds good only if it worked before being set off. I mean, if the alarm is tripped, the switch should not work until turned off with the fob. If it cut the power for the alarm regardless then I would agree that it would be a dumb thing.

Why dont you prove to me that it is. I cant find any type of alarm 'switch' much less one like that.

How many people have a switch like this stock in thier car? I want other opinions.

Re: Found A Hidden Switch In My Car

Why in hell were you reading the owners manual??

That looks like a toggle switch, I dont know how or why you'd hook a timer up to a toggle switch. Also, why would Mitsu put a goofy ass radioshack toggle in? I can understand a valet deal, but not a toggle switch in plain view that looks homebrewed as hell.

There is an easy way to check... FOLLOW THE LEADS! For christ's sake, that panel takes all of about 12 seconds to pop off and all you gotta do is look at some wires until you see where they go. To settle the stock vs aftermarket arguement, see if it goes into a wiring harness. If it doesnt, you've got 0% chance making me believe its stock. Also, if it does go to a harness, make sure it looks like it was supposed to be there and not just splicing into existing wires.
