My 1996 JGC with 5.2L has a siezed motor that i am trying to replace. the problem is that I cant turn the flywheel to get at the bolts in the torque converter to pull the motor. i have tried to turn the crank but solid even with a huge cheater bar wont move. Any other way to get the bolts off the torque converter so I can get my new motor in.

Re: Help to problem solve, URGENT

if the motor is truely junk, pull the plugs and send in most of a can of wd-40, crc, etc. Wait till morning. Then think of a creative way to use that old bottle jack. If the transmission is junk, an oxy/ace torch comes to mind . . . keep us posted as to how you ultimately manage this.

Re: Help to problem solve, URGENT

Well you could just unbolt the tranny from the jeep and pull the engine forward and the TC will slide out of the tranny with the engine then you should be able to unbolt it. Make sure you remove as much stuff in the front of the jeep as possible, radiator, condensor, grill, etc... to give you more room.

Also before you put the engine in make sure the converter bo0lts up to the flywheel (on the new engine) correctly, when I replaced the engine (5.2L) in my 94 a few years back I got it all together and couldn't get the TC to bolt to the flywheel only 2 bolts would align at most, I kept spinning it and checking but they would not line up, so I had to pull the engine away from the tranny and then unbolt the flywheel from the engine and checked it against the converter and the bolt pattern was totally different. So I had to use the flywheel from my old engine.
