clutch noise
i just bought an '04 wrangler. when i have the shifter in the neutral position, and the clutch is engaged it makes an almost grinding noise. when i push it in it stops. i work at a jeep dealership and a tech told me the noise was the input and output shaft and it is just normal unloaded gear noise. does that make sense or is there an actual problem with the clutch or transmission?

Re: clutch noise
it is a well known noise. it is the reverse idler gear in the nv-3550 (3500?). since this transmission came from 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks it is considered a truck transmission. and a "normal" noise that will have no adverse effects! mike
