leaky power steering cooler

Does anyone know where the P/S cooler is located on my 94 LeSabre? Also, is it possible to bypass for now until I can get it replaced? Thanks.

Re: leaky power steering cooler

should be right under the passengers side feet.
follow the hoses and you will find it.
Yes it can be bypassed but make sure you dont beat on the car, beings it is winter that is a pluss for you. this core tisapates heat.
Use a hose splice and use two hose clamps, one on each end.
This is not recomended but I personally know people that have removed them, spliced the hoses and still run there vehical year round and have no intention of replacing it..
This really is something that you want to repair soon and not let fo for to long of a period of time.
Just my two cents

Re: leaky power steering cooler

I've replaced them with a length of plain tubing, instead of fin tube. The factory uses plain tubing on many other vehicles, and no cooler at all on many vehicles.

Given the location, it's not a surprise that they rot out and leak, being subjected to all kinds of road debris, spray, and whatever the tires kick up.

Re: leaky power steering cooler

the powersteering cooler in my 92 lesabre was rusted and leaking badly so i bypassed it completly. it works great and i have not had a problem since. i replaced it about 2 years ago.
definatly either bypass or fix it quickly tho because its not good to drive it with no powersteering fluid in it.

Re: leaky power steering cooler

GM did not install PS coolers to save money, they did it to help maintain system longevity in warmer climates. You might get by with a bypass in cooler climates; however, if you live in the south, you might want to reconsider. My

Re: leaky power steering cooler

Thanks guys for the help. I had it replaced. No access to a lift, and too cold in B'more. Expensive repair.
