Check the negative or ground wire in your battery and try to tightened it.

Re: 1999 kia sportage will not start
Check fuse of the starter, if its good, then your starter needs to be replaced or rebuild...

Re: 1999 kia sportage will not start
INdeed it can be the starter itself but historically, Sportage starter failure is rare . YOu must first establish if 12v reaches the starter solenoid coil: there are several places where the circuit can be cut: transmission/clutch switch is one. 40A/80A fuse (circuit varies with year). Failed ignition switch is another. By the way, is it a manual or an automatic ?
DO you hear the starter solenoid "click" ? TUrn headlights ON: At the moment you turn the ignition key to START, will the headlight fade OFF? (this to test battery connections: bad connecetion can keep lights and instruments ON but when trying to start they all go off) www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kiasport/FusesOUT.jpg 2000 http://www.geocities.com/lmp4203/kia...ingcircuit.gif 1999 www.avigex.ca/kia/startingsystem.gif 2000 www.avigex.ca/kia/starterrepair.pdf (Starter is on right side of engine, below battery )
