2000 zx2 s/r problem

hello all,
my 00 zx2 s/r just all of a sudden stopped running on me on the highway. gauges are fine(coolant, oil, etc). the check engine light came on. the crank will turn but the car wont start. the OBII scanner couldnt read anything. it seems to me like a bad ECU. any input on this would be appreciated.

thanks,

Re: 2000 zx2 s/r problem

Welcome to AF. The timing belt is known to break at around 100k. Take off the oil filler cap and shine a flashlight in there to see if the valve train is moving when it is turned over. If it's not moving the timing belt has broken. Your engine isn't an interference engine (meaning the valves go through the pistons when the timing belt breaks). Another way to tell if the belt has broken is to listen to it as it is being turned over. It won't sound steady, it will speed up and slow down as it turns over a cylinder that the valve or valves are open.

IF the timing belt is OK you are right. I would be looking at the ECU.

Re: 2000 zx2 s/r problem

sounds like the PCM grounded out, mine did that twice. Hope you didn't have a good code....cuz your performance is now going to BLOW when Ford gives you a new PCM...unless you get a non-flashed one off of ebay.

lol might as well start running 87oct then
