mabee someone can give me an idea of the time it will take to successfully convert my 1984 f150 from an automatic transmission to a 4speed od standard.

find an '84 with a manual 4 speed od set up and it will have what you need to go from automatic to manual trans. in fact '82 to '86 should work

4 speed OD? were talking about what is commonly called the 5 speed manual, right? I don't think these came out until 1988. I could be wrong though.

Re: changing my f150 from automatic to manual

i do beleive that the 4spd od (aka 5speed) did come out in the 87 modelsbut i found the info i needed and im not going to attempt the project. thanks for your help but everything im finding says it would depreciate the value. not wanting to sell but i also dont want to make it worth less.

im not interested in another automatic tranny, but thanks for offering. im going to do the change over soon, first i have to go over the 351 im gonna bolt the 5 speed to. it has been sitting for 2 years and shows signs of leakage around the valve covers and oil pan.

i would check the rear main seal also if its been setting up they will get dried out and then when you drive it the seal will leak. i had the trans rebuilt in the e- 150 and the old man that rebuilt it has been doing trans for thirty years and the 5.0 motor had 200,000 miles on it and i guess the oil pump surged for some reason ,haven't tore into the motor yet. but my wife was driving and never looked at the oil pressure gauge and fried the bearings and lifters cause i cranked it the next morning and it sounded like a thrashing machine. and a guy wanted the trans so i pulled it then he wanted me to give it to him i reckon . the deal fell through and i wrapped the trans up and put it in a shed. i might end up putting it in my '78 f 100 as the motor is rebuilt in it.good luck with it..
